Australian Magpie Size: The length of these birds is 37 to 43 cm (14.5-17 in) with a wingspan of 65-85 cm (26-33 in). Weight: These magpies weigh between 220 and 350 grams (8-12 oz). The Australian Magpie (Cracticus tibicen) is a species of bird native to Australia and parts of New Guinea. It's a medium-sized bird, with striking black and white plumage and a long, strong beak. They're part of the Artamidae family, which also includes the butcherbirds, currawongs and woodswallows.

Introductions also occurred in the Solomon Islands and Fiji, where the birds are not considered an invasive species. The Australian magpie is the mascot of several Australian and New Zealand sporting teams, including the Collingwood Magpies, the Western Suburbs Magpies, Port Adelaide Magpies and, in New Zealand, the Hawke's Bay Magpies.
